This is the Bechdel Test article I referenced briefly in yesterday’s entry. I bring this up also because this small snippet had some of the most engaging interaction in a visualization that I’ve used recently. This shows how many films in a corpus of 4,000 pass the Bechdel Test, that is, in which two women talk to each other about something other than a man. One of the most interesting is that you can filter out films based on the gender makeup of the film staff. In this example, you can see that less than a fourth of the films have at least one woman as a writer and producer. I’ve been using these filters to explore for the last couple of minutes and it’s amazing what you can find.
