Egyptians had developed their own method of visual communication by using pictographs to represent words.

Their written system was composed of a combination of logographic, syllabic, and alphabetic elements and was composed of over one thousand distinct characters.

I find it interesting how we have a tendency to use images for visual communication. Which is completely understandable as it is a very intuitive form of communication.
